Fill your home with the nostalgic feel of vintage and antique Christmas ornaments with this set of 6 vintage glass ball drop ornaments, pre- and post- World War II.
The set contains 5 "Made in USA" Shiny Brite mercury balls, and one Japanese pre- World War silver mercury ball.
Also pictured is one pre- World War I German celluloid ball with an angel inside but this item is being sold separately.
The one with a gold, brocade band is a 1950s Italian unbreakable ornament, a fine, retro piece!
The historical significance of this set is amazing as it contains 5 distinct Shiny Brite balls, some of the first to be made in the USA. Two of the Shiny Brite balls were likely produced pre- WWII or at the beginning of the war as they are silvered and have metal caps marked "Made in U.S.A."
The two pastel pink, translucent balls were very likely made during the war when metals could not be spared - for these the caps and hangers were even made of cardboard to save precious resources. The fifth larger Shiny Brite ball is white with blue glittered decorations and gold ribbon and includes a metal cap.
Even more historical significance comes from the final ball in this ornament set. The smallest silver ball has a cap marked "Japan" signifying that it was made pre- World War II when Japan began producing Christmas ornaments to compete with Germany.
The vintage patina and historic significance of this ornament set cannot be duplicated. It will add an incalculable amount of beauty and interest to your unique vintage Christmas tree.
Approximately 2 to 3 inches tall, a great assortment of collectible, vintage Christmas ball ornaments!
