After a very successful career with the San Diego Chargers, the Saints offered Brees compensation commensurate of a top 5 “franchise” quarterback while he was a free agent in 2005. Between 206 and through 2009, he repeatedly demonstrated a stellar performance with the Saints.
During the 2007 season, he was recognized for the most completions for a season (44).
During the 2010 Super Bowl, he tied the record for the greatest pass completions in the Super Bowl (32) and led the Saints, the underdog, to victory. He was the MVP.
Early and personal history:
Drew Brees graduated from Purdue University where he established with the Big Ten Conference pass yards records (11.792), total offensive years (12,693), touchdown passes (90), and attempts (1.678). In 2001, he was took the boilermakers to the Rose Bowl (Purdue’s last appearance was in 1967). In 2000, he won the Maxwell Award as the best national player and was the NCAA’s Today’s top VIII award recipient in 2001. He was the second Boilermaker to be named to the Academic All-American Player of the Year during his senior year, and he also won an award for dedication and unselfishness.
Brees and his wife welcomed his first child, a son, on January 15, 2009, the same day that he turned 30.
Brees demonstrated altruistic nature throughout the time that he has been with the Saints, committing time and involvement to help New Orleans following the Katrina floods.
