This Wedgwood antique green grape vine & oak leaf basket weave set of 6 plates would make a terrific addition to a majolica collection. 9 inches in diameter.
Produced in the 1870s, the Wedgwood “greenware” Majolica plates wonderfully use the low relief patterning involving foliate and basket work.
A trellis design surrounded by oak leaves with acorns centers each plate. A basket weave design then radiates to the edge of the plate, with a scallop basket edge design richly covered by grape leaves, completing the motif.
The unique pattern is seldom available compared to other green Majolica designs and is a choice find!
The bottom of each plate is embossed "Wedgwood" and additionally embossed with either "S TQR" or "S 3QQ" (date code, which Wedgwood begain using in 186). Since the last letter shows year of production, these plates appear to have been produced in the late 1880s (before "England" was embossed begining in 1891), with production begun perhaps 20 years earlier.
The plates are perfect for special luncheons, special occasions, and are particularly appealing for use with light summer meals!

CONDITION OF ITEM:
The plates are in excellent antique condition. Slight crazing visible on back of some of the plates, as are the kiln marks from securing plates in place during the glaze firing. Rare to find these plates in such fine condition.
